The committed individuals that make up our team consistently go above and beyond to ensure that each guest has a four diamond experience at our resort.

In an industry where high turnover is the norm, our staff’s longevity is unparalleled. From the groundskeepers and kitchen staff to our executive management, our staff is knowledgeable and experienced in guest service.

We would like to introduce you to a few of our outstanding team members:

Jim Hubbard, Director of Rooms, 19 years

Jim was appointed Director of Rooms of the Scottsdale Resort & Conference Center in November of 2005. Born and raised in Arizona, Jim began his hotel career in Security at the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. Jim assumed various roles at the Phoenician, leaving in 1990 to pursue other opportunities. Jim began employment at the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center in 1993, assuming various management positions, culminating in his current position. As Director of Rooms, Jim has taken the lead role in achieving and maintaining AAA 4 diamond status for the resort, as well as the lead in the efforts to become a "Green" resort. Jim is also a key member of the resort's volunteer efforts, aligning with Clean the World, St. Vincent de Paul, Sierra Vista Academy, and other community organizations in support of Benchmark Hospitality International's Hometown Hospitality. Jim is an avid golfer and sports enthusiast who also enjoys time with family and friends.

Brenda Weskamp, General Manager, 12 years

Brenda was appointed General Manager of the Scottsdale Resort & Conference Center in January of 2000. Born and raised in Nebraska, Brenda began her hotel career at the age of 16 as a weekend housekeeper at the Far West Motel in North Platte, Nebraska. After graduating with a degree in business administration and management from Kearney State College in Nebraska, she joined Doubletree Hotels where she rose through the management ranks culminating in general manager positions for Doubletree properties in Houston and Baltimore. As Scottsdale Resort’s General Manager, Brenda has organized a volunteer program for the resort’s staff, aligning with St. Vincent de Paul, Sierra Vista Academy, and other community organizations in support of Benchmark Hospitality International’s Hometown Hospitality. She also loves to play golf, hike, cook, entertain and is an avid sports enthusiast.

Jack Hughes, Assistant Guest Services Manager, 11 years

Jack Hughes grew up in Westport, Connecticut. He began his working career as a busboy at 16 years of age. Jack decided to venture out of his home state and moved to Arizona to pursue his degree at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. He achieved a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from NAU. Jack has been with Scottsdale Resort since 2001 where he began his career as a Bellman. He was promoted to his current position as Assistant Guest Services Manager as a result of his commitment to guest service. Jack takes advantage of the wonderful Arizona climate by golfing, camping and fishing.

Sue Bordeaux, Director of Recreation, 26 years

Sue was appointed Director of Recreation at the Scottsdale Resort & Conference Center in April of 2000. This position has allowed her to expand on her Physical Education degree by operating the hotel gym, managing the Amansala Spa/ Salon and focus on Corporate Teambuilding Events for the hotel conference groups – a true passion as she bounces off walls with enthusiasm when facilitating events! Born and raised here in Arizona, Sue began her employment at the hotel in 1986 in the Beverage Department. She transferred to Banquets where she worked for 9 years before becoming a manager in the Conference Planning Dept. Sue held this position for two years (which enabled her to work directly with the hotel’s group meeting planners assisting with their meeting and conference stay) before being appointed Director of Recreation at the hotel. She has taken these skills and now applies them to the hotel’s teambuilding events. Sue takes pride in her customer service skills and commitment to guest service. She enjoys time with family, weight training, swimming, hiking and is an avid sports enthusiast.

Kwan Won, Maitre d’ Extraordinaire– Palm Court Restaurant, 22 years

Kwan remembers the exact moment when he joined the wait staff of the Palm Court in September of 1989. He knew there was something special about the restaurant, and now he is one of the things that make dining in the Palm Court a special experience. Kwan learned the art of tableside service in Chicago while traveling and working in various restaurants around the U.S. He returned to Phoenix, and found the perfect match for his newly honed craft, the Palm Court. For more than 21 years now, Kwan has been masterfully creating exceptional dining experiences in the Palm Court with his charming personality, well-trained staff, and extraordinary tableside service.

Ivanka Mircic, Houskeeping Supervisor, 14 years

Ivanka Mircic was born in the village of Prelog in Croatia. In 1991 when a civil war broke out in Croatia, Ivanka was sent to Serbia and in 1998 ended up in Arizona as a war refugee with the assistance of The International Rescue Committee. Ivanka interviewed and was hired in SRCC’s Housekeeping department as a lobby attendant. After two years as a lobby attendant, Ivanka was promoted to the position of PM Housekeeping supervisor. As housekeeping supervisor Ivanka plays a pivotal roll in maintaining SRCC’s award winning Four Diamond service levels. She goes above and beyond in assisting both guests and employees and is a very important part of the SRCC family. When Ivanka is not working she enjoys spending time with her 2 grandchildren and her husband of 32 years.

Liz Locke, Conference Planning Manager, 6 Years

Liz was born and grew up in the small town of Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Liz began employment at the Scottsdale Resort & Conference Center in January of 2006 as a Front Desk Agent. Almost immediately, Liz was recognized for her Midwestern work ethic and stellar customer service skills, making Liz an obvious choice for Front Desk Supervisor and shortly thereafter, Sales Administrative Assistant. Liz continued to work in multiple departments grasping all aspects and knowledge of the resort. In May of 2010, Liz joined our Conference Planning team. Currently, Liz is working towards a degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management with a goal of becoming a certified meeting planner as well. Liz is also part of Benchmark’s “Best of the Best, A-Team” program and participates in Hometown Hospitality initiatives and St. Vincent de Paul Charities. Liz enjoys cooking and hiking with her husband, staying fit at the gym, long boarding and traveling home to Wisconsin to visit family and friends.

Juan Verdugo, House Attendant Supervisor, 28 years

Juan began working at the Scottsdale Resort & Conference Center in May of 1983 in the Housekeeping department. As House Attendant Supervisor, he is responsible for overseeing the entire House Attendant staff. Juan can be seen assisting guests, taking on House Attendant duties wherever needed, maintaining the many wood floors around property, and ensuring that all public areas are up to his high standard of appearance. He is a selfless, committed employee who will go above and beyond to assist his fellow employees and guests.
